On her authority, she said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) would not complete the Quran in less than three [days]. Narrated by Abu Ubayd in "Fada'il al-Qur'an" (Virtues of the Quran). Ibn Mas'ud said: "Whoever recites the Quran in less than three [days] [it is a hurried recitation like the hurried recitation of] poetry, and scattered like the scattering of bad dates."
Section: Abu Abd Allah disliked reciting with alhan (melodic musical tones), and he said: "It is a bid'ah (innovation)." This is based on what was narrated from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) that he mentioned among the signs of the Hour that the Quran would be treated as musical instruments, and they would put one of them forward who is not the most proficient among them nor the best, except to sing for them as a song. This is because the Quran is miraculous in its wording and composition, and melodies alter it. The statement of Ahmad on this matter is interpreted as referring to excessiveness in this regard, to the extent that it turns the vowels into [extra] letters and elongates them in places where it is not appropriate. As for improving the recitation and tarji' (vocal trilling/reverberation), it is not disliked. For Abdullah ibn al-Mughaffal said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) on the day of the conquest of Makkah reciting Surah al-Fath. He said: Ibn al-Mughaffal recited it and trilled in his recitation. In another wording, he said: The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) recited Surah al-Fath while on his mount during the year of the Conquest on a journey, and he trilled in his recitation. Mu'awiyah ibn Qurrah said: "Were it not that I fear that people would gather around me, I would have imitated his recitation for you." Both are narrated by Muslim. In some wordings, it says: "A-a-a." Abu Hurayrah narrated that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Allah has not listened to anything as He listens to a Prophet with a beautiful..."
