"O Bilal, place a pause between your Adhan and your Iqamah, so that the one who is eating can finish his meal at leisure, and the one who is relieving himself can satisfy his need at leisure." From Jabir ibn Abdullah, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said to Bilal: "Place between your Adhan and your Iqamah the amount of time it takes for the eater to finish his eating, the drinker to finish his drinking, and the one who is relieving himself [when he enters to satisfy his need]." [Narrated by al-Tirmidhi]. Tammam narrated in his "Fawa'id", with his chain of narration from Abu Hurayrah, from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), that he said: "The sitting of the Muezzin between the Adhan and the Iqamah for Maghrib is a Sunnah." Ishaq ibn Mansur said: I saw Ahmad go out at Maghrib time, and when he reached the place of the row, the Muezzin started the Iqamah, so he sat down. Al-Khallal narrated with his chain of narration from Abd al-Rahman ibn Abi Layla that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) arrived while Bilal was in the Iqamah, so he sat down. Ahmad said: A man should sit for the duration of two rak'ahs when the Maghrib Adhan is given. It was said: From where [is this taken]? He said: From the hadith of Anas and others: The companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), when the Muezzin gave the Adhan, would hasten to the pillars and pray two rak'ahs. This is because the Adhan was legislated for notification, so it is recommended to wait so that people may catch the prayer and prepare for it; the evidence for this is the other prayers.
126 - Issue; He said: (Abu Abd Allah does not recommend that one should give the Adhan unless he is in a state of purity, for if he gives the Adhan while in a state of major impurity [junub], he must repeat it.)
It is recommended for the Muezzin to be in a state of purity from both minor and major impurity entirely;
