He said: I heard the Messenger of God, peace and blessings of God be upon him, say: "Five prayers that God has imposed upon His servants. Whoever performs them, not omitting anything from them out of disregard for their right (11), God Almighty will make for him a covenant on the Day of Resurrection that He will enter him into Paradise. And whoever comes with them but has diminished (12) something from them, he has no covenant with God; if He wills, He will punish him, and if He wills, He will forgive him" (13). It was narrated from Ṭalḥa ibn ʿUbayd Allāh that a Bedouin came to the Prophet, peace and blessings of God be upon him, and said: O Messenger of God, what has God imposed upon me regarding prayer? He said: "Five prayers." He said: Is there any other upon me? He said: "No, unless you perform something voluntarily." The man said: By the One who sent you with the truth, I will not add to them, nor will I diminish from them. The Messenger of God, peace and blessings of God be upon him, said: "The man has succeeded if he is truthful." It is agreed upon (14). The addition of prayer may be in the supererogatory prayers (sunan), so it is not determined that it is an obligation. Furthermore, it is a prayer performed on a riding animal without necessity, so it is a supererogatory prayer (nāfila) like the regular sunnah prayers (al-sunan al-rawātib).
