is burdensome due to its prevalence in most regions. If the Imam's permission is impossible to obtain due to discord, the Qadi said: The apparent implication of his (Ahmad's) speech is its validity without permission, based on both narrations. Thus, according to this view, permission is considered when possible, and its consideration is dropped when it is impossible.

Section: A city (misr) is not a condition for the Friday prayer. Something to this effect was narrated from Ibn Umar, Umar ibn Abd al-Aziz, al-Awza'i, al-Layth, Makhul, Ikrimah, and al-Shafi'i. It was narrated from Ali—may Allah be pleased with him—that he said: "There is no Friday prayer and no Tashriq except in a congregational city (misr jami')." (20) This is also the view of al-Hasan, Ibn Sirin, Ibrahim, Abu Hanifah, and Muhammad ibn al-Hasan, because it has been narrated from the Prophet—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—that he said: "There is no Friday prayer and no Tashriq except in a congregational city." (20) Our evidence is what Ka'b ibn Malik narrated, that he said: "As'ad ibn Zurarah was the first to hold Friday prayer with us in Hazm al-Nabit of Harra Bani Bayada, in a depression (naqi') called Naqi' al-Khadamat." Narrated by Abu Dawud. (21) Ibn Jurayj said: I said to 'Ata: "Do you mean when (22) that was by the command of the Prophet—may Allah bless him and grant him peace?" He said: "Yes." Al-Khattabi said (23): Harra Bani Bayada is a village (24) a mile away from Medina. From Ibn Abbas, he said: "The first Friday prayer performed after the Friday prayer in Medina was a Friday prayer performed at Juwatha (25) in Bahrain, among the villages of Abd al-Qays." Narrated by al-Bukhari. (26) And Abu
