puberty," and other general reports. Our evidence is his (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) saying: "Whoever comes to the Friday prayer, let him perform Ghusl" (14). Furthermore, the intended purpose is cleansing and eliminating odor so that others are not harmed by it, and this specifically applies to the one who attends the Friday prayer. The general reports are intended to mean this, which is why it is called "Friday Ghusl." If someone who is not obligated to attend performs it, it is recommended for him due to the generality of the report and the existence of the underlying reason (ma'na) within it.
Section: It is recommended that one wear two clean garments, based on what 'Abdullah ibn Salam narrated, that he heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) say on a Friday: "What would it harm any of you if he purchased two garments for the day of Friday other than his work garments?" Reported by Muslim, Abu Dawud, and Ibn Majah (15). It also appeared in a hadith: "Whoever wears his best clothes on Friday and performs Ghusl" (16), and he mentioned the rest of the hadith. The best of them is white, for his (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) saying: "The best of your clothes is white; wear them while you are alive and shroud your dead in them" (17). It is also recommended to wear a turban (i'timam) and wrap oneself (irta'a), because the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) used to do that. For the Imam, this and similar matters are more emphasized than for others, because he is the one being looked at by the people.
