-peace and blessings of Allah be upon him- is evidence that he would recite aloud, and because it is an Eid prayer, so it is analogous to the Friday prayer (Jumu'ah). It is recommended that he recite in the first rak'ah [Surah] "Sabbih" (Al-A'la) (2), and in the second [Surah] "Al-Ghashiyah". Ahmad explicitly stated this because Nu'man ibn Bashir said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, used to recite in the two Eids and in Jumu'ah [Surah] "Sabbih isma rabbika al-a'la" (Glorify the name of your Lord, the Most High) and "Hal ataka hadith al-ghashiyah" (Has there reached you the report of the Overwhelming [Event]?). And sometimes they would coincide on the same day, so he would recite them both. Narrated by Muslim (3). Al-Shafi'i said: He should recite [Surah] "Qaf" and [Surah] "Iqtarabat al-sa'ah" (4), because it is narrated that 'Umar asked Abu Waqid al-Laythi: What did the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, use to recite during [Eid] al-Fitr and al-Adha?
