Marwan brought forward the khutbah before the prayer, so a man stood up and said: You have contradicted the Sunnah; the khutbah used to be after the prayer. He replied: That has been abandoned, O so-and-so. Abu Sa'id then stood up and said: As for this speaker, he has fulfilled his duty. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said to us: "Whoever among you sees an evil, let him change it with his hand; if he cannot, then with his tongue; and if he cannot, then with his heart, and that is the weakest of faith." It was narrated by Abu Dawud al-Tayalisi, from Shu'bah, from Qays ibn Muslim, from Tariq. [It was also narrated by Muslim in his Sahih (3), and its wording is: "let him change it" (4)]. Based on this, whoever delivers the khutbah before the prayer is like someone who has not delivered it at all; because he delivered it in a place other than the proper place for the khutbah, similar to one who delivers the khutbah for Jumu'ah after the prayer. Once this is established, the description of the two khutbahs is like the description of the two khutbahs of Jumu'ah, except that he begins the first with nine consecutive takbirs, and the second with seven consecutive. The Qadi said: If he inserts tahlil (saying La ilaha illa Allah) or dhikr between them, it is good. Sa'id said: Ya'qub ibn 'Abd al-Rahman narrated to us, from his father, from 'Ubayd Allah ibn 'Abd Allah ibn 'Utbah, who said: The imam performs nine takbirs on the pulpit on the day of Eid before he speaks, then he speaks, and in the second he performs seven takbirs. It is recommended that he increase the takbir throughout his khutbah. Sa'd, the mu'adhdhin of the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, narrated that the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, used to perform takbir throughout the khutbah, increasing the takbir in the two khutbahs of the two Eids. It was recorded by Ibn Majah (5). So when he performs takbir during
