Hurayrah: "Whoever wakes up in a state of janabah (major ritual impurity), there is no fast for him" (25). When they mentioned this to Abu Hurayrah, he said: "They are more knowledgeable; the Fadl ibn Abbas had only told me that." And he retracted his statement. If his action were not a proof for others, it would not have been a contradiction to his statement. Furthermore, the Companions, may Allah be pleased with them, reached a consensus (26) on the Prayer of Fear. It is narrated that Ali, may Allah be pleased with him, performed the Prayer of Fear on the Night of al-Harir (27), and Abu Musa al-Ash'ari performed the Prayer of Fear with his companions (28). It is also narrated that Sa'id ibn al-As was the commander of the army in Tabaristan, and he asked: "Which of you prayed the Prayer of Fear with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)?" Hudhayfah replied: "I did." So he put him forward, and he led them in prayer (29).
