ibn Zayd (1) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) went out to seek rain, and he turned toward the qiblah supplicating. Narrated by al-Bukhari (2). In another wording: "He turned his back to the people and faced the qiblah supplicating." It is recommended to supplicate silently while [facing the qiblah] (3), saying: "O Allah, You have commanded us to call upon You, and You have promised us Your response; we have called upon You as You have commanded us, so respond to us as You have promised us. O Allah, bestow upon us the forgiveness of our sins, the answering of our supplication for rain, and the expansion of our provisions." Then he supplicates with whatever he wishes regarding matters of religion and worldly life. Silence is recommended (5) because it is closer to sincerity, more profound in humility, submission, and entreaty, and faster in receiving a response, as Allah the Almighty said: "Call upon your Lord in humility and secretly" (6). It is recommended to speak aloud for some of it so the people may hear and say 'Amin' to his supplication. It is recommended to turn one's cloak while facing the qiblah because in the hadith of 'Abd Allah ibn Zayd, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) went out to seek rain, turned his back to the people, faced the qiblah, and then turned his cloak. Agreed upon (7). This is the wording narrated by al-Bukhari. In a wording narrated by Muslim: "He turned his cloak when he faced the qiblah." In another wording: "He inverted his cloak." Agreed upon. It is recommended for the imam and those following him to turn their cloaks, according to the opinion of most scholars. Abu Hanifah said: "It is not a sunnah; because it is a supplication, so turning the cloak is not recommended in it, like other supplications." But the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) is more deserving to be followed. It was narrated from Sa'id ibn al-Musayyib, 'Urwah, and al-Thawri that turning the cloak is specific to the imam and not for those following him. This is the opinion of al-Layth, Abu Yusuf, and Muhammad ibn al-Hasan, because it was transmitted from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and not
