Section: He shall recite the recitation and supplication in the funeral prayer in a low voice. We know of no disagreement among scholars regarding this, and he shall not recite anything after the Mother of the Qur'an (al-Fatiha). It has been narrated from Ibn 'Abbas that he recited the Opening of the Book aloud (7). Ahmad said: He only recited aloud to teach them.

359 - Issue; He said: (And he shall pronounce the second takbir, and send blessings upon the Prophet—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—just as he sends blessings upon him in the tashahhud).

This is how Ahmad described the prayer over the deceased, as mentioned by al-Khiraqi, and it is the school of thought of al-Shafi'i. It was narrated from Ibn 'Abbas that he performed a funeral prayer in Mecca and pronounced the takbir, then recited and recited aloud, and sent blessings upon the Prophet—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—then he supplicated for its owner and did so well, then he departed and said: "This is how the prayer over the funeral should be" (1). Al-Shafi'i narrated in his "Musnad" (2) from Abu Umamah ibn Sahl that a man from the companions of the Prophet—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—informed him that the Sunnah in the prayer over the funeral is that the Imam pronounces the takbir, then recites the Opening of the Book after the first takbir, reciting in a low voice to himself, then he sends blessings upon the Prophet—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—and devotes supplication to the deceased (3) in the takbirs, not reciting anything in any of them, then he performs the taslim in a low voice to himself. The manner of sending blessings upon the Prophet—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—is the same as the manner of sending blessings upon him in the tashahhud; because when the Prophet—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—was asked: "How do we send blessings upon you?" he taught them that. If he performs it in a manner other than what was mentioned in the tashahhud, there is no harm, because the intent is the absolute sending of blessings. Al-Qadi said: He says: "O Allah, send blessings upon Your close angels, Your sent prophets, and all those who obey You, from the inhabitants of the heavens and the inhabitants of the earths, indeed You are powerful over all things." Because Ahmad said, in the narration of 'Abd Allah: He sends blessings upon the Prophet—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—and sends blessings upon the close angels.
