It is authentic. Abu Dawud (5) narrated from Abu Hurayrah, from the Prophet—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—a similar hadith to that of Abu Ibrahim, with the addition: "O Allah, whoever among us You keep alive, keep him alive upon faith, and whoever among us You take in death, take him in death upon Islam. O Allah, do not deprive us of his reward, and do not lead us astray after him." In another hadith from Abu Hurayrah, from the Prophet—may Allah bless him and grant him peace: "O Allah, You are her Lord, You created her, You guided her to Islam, You took her soul, and You know best her inner and outer state. We have come as intercessors, so forgive him." Recorded by Abu Dawud (6). Muslim (7) narrated with his chain of authority from Awf ibn Malik, who said: The Messenger of Allah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—prayed over a funeral, and I memorized from his supplication that he was saying: "O Allah, forgive him, have mercy upon him, grant him well-being, pardon him, honor his lodging, widen his entrance, wash him with water, snow, and hail, and cleanse him of sins as a white garment is cleansed of filth. Exchange his home for a home better than his home, his family for a family better than his family, and his spouse for a spouse better than his spouse. Protect him from the punishment of the grave and from the punishment of the Fire," until I wished that I were that deceased person.
