Section: It is disliked to sit on a grave, to lean upon it, to support oneself against it, to walk upon it, or to defecate between graves, because of the aforementioned Hadith of Jabir, and in the Hadith of Abu Marthad al-Ghanawi: "Do not sit upon graves and do not pray towards them." (Authentic) (31). It was mentioned to Ahmad that Malik interprets the Hadith of the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, regarding the prohibition of sitting on graves, to mean for the purpose of relieving oneself. He said: "This is of no consequence," and he did not favor Malik's opinion. Al-Khallal narrated with his chain of transmission from 'Uqbah ibn 'Amir, who said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said: "That I should tread upon a live coal or a sword is dearer to me than that I should tread upon the grave of a Muslim, and I do not care whether I relieve myself in the midst of the graves or in the midst of the market." Narrated by Ibn Majah (32).
Section: It is not permissible to use lamps upon graves, due to the saying of the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him: "Allah has cursed the women who visit graves and those who take them as mosques and place lamps upon them." Narrated by Abu Dawud and al-Nasa'i (33). The wording is: "The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, cursed..." If it were permitted, the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, would not have cursed the one who does it.
