al-Bukhari. (62) It was also narrated on the authority of al-Fadl ibn ‘Abbas that the Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) came to them in their desert and prayed without a sutra. (63) This is because the sutra is not a condition for prayer; rather, it is recommended (mustahabb). Ahmad said, concerning a man who prays in an open space with neither a sutra nor a line in front of him: "His prayer is valid." He also said: "I prefer (64) that he do so, but if he does not, it is sufficient for him."
264 - Issue: He said: "And whoever passes in front of the person praying should be turned back."
The summary of this is that no one has the right to pass in front of a person who is praying if there is no sutra in front of him. If there is a sutra in front of him, no one should pass between him and it, due to what Abu Jahm al-Ansari narrated, saying that the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) said: "If the one passing in front of a person praying knew what sin was upon him, it would be better for him to stand for forty [years] than to pass in front of him." Agreed upon (1). In the version of Muslim (2): "For one of you to stand for a hundred years is better for him than to pass in front of his brother while he is praying."
(62) Thus the author mentioned, but we did not find it in al-Bukhari. Perhaps it is "al-Najjad".
