customary for them to wear, such as a belt and the like of men’s jewelry, it is forbidden, and Zakat is due upon her, just as if a man were to adopt for himself a woman’s jewelry.

451 - Issue: He said: "And there is no Zakat on a man’s sword ornament, his belt, or his ring."

The summary of this is that whatever is permitted of jewelry, there is no Zakat on it if it is prepared for use, whether it belongs to a man or a woman, because it is diverted from the direction of growth (nima') to permissible use, thus it resembles work clothes and the draft animals of livestock. It is permissible for men to use silver for a ring, because the Prophet (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) took a ring of silver. This is agreed upon (1). As for the ornament of a sword, it is by having its pommel (2) made of silver or by adorning it with silver; for Anas said: The pommel of the Messenger of Allah’s (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) sword was silver. Hisham ibn Urwah said: The sword of al-Zubayr was adorned with silver.
