Ka'b: By Allah, Ibn Mas'ud knew that it is in Ramadan, but he disliked to inform you so that you would not rely [solely] on it. Once this is established, it is recommended to seek it throughout all the nights of Ramadan, and it is more emphasized in the last ten nights, and even more emphasized on the odd-numbered nights thereof. Ahmad said: It is in the last ten nights, and it is on an odd-numbered night, without fail, if Allah wills. This is what was narrated from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), as he said: "Seek it in the last ten nights: when nine days remain, or seven days remain, or five days remain." (15). Salim narrated from his father, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "I see that your dreams have concurred that it is in the last ten nights, so seek it in the last ten nights, on the odd-numbered ones thereof." (Agreed upon) (16). Aishah said: When the last ten nights of Ramadan entered (17), the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) would stay awake at night, wake his family, and tighten his waist-wrapper. (Agreed upon) (18). She said: And he would exert himself in the last ten nights in a way he would not exert himself in other than them (19). And Ali said, may Allah be pleased

كَعْبٍ: واللهِ لقد عَلِمَ ابنُ مسعودٍ أنَّها فى رمضانَ، ولكنَّه كَرِهَ أن يُخْبِرَكُم، فَتَتَّكِلُوا. إذا ثَبَتَ هذا فإنَّه يُسْتَحَبُّ ظَلَبُها فى جَمِيعِ لَيالِى رمضانَ، وفى العَشْرِ الأوَاخِرِ آكَدُ، وفى لَيَالِى الوَتْرِ منه آكَدُ. وقال أحمدُ: هى فى العَشْرِ الأَوَاخِرِ، وفى وَتْرٍ من اللَّيَالِى، لا يُخْطِئُ إن شاءَ اللَّه، كذا رُوِىَ عن النَّبِىِّ -صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ-، قال: "اطْلُبُوهَا فى العَشْرِ الأَوَاخِرِ، فى ثَلَاثٍ بَقِينَ، أو سَبْعٍ بَقِينَ، أو تِسْعٍ بَقِينَ" (١٥). ورَوَى سالِمٌ عن أبِيه، قال: قال رسولُ اللهِ -صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ-: "أرَى رُؤْيَاكُمْ قَدْ تَوَاطَأَتْ عَلَى أنَّها فَى العَشْرِ الأَوَاخِرِ، فَالْتَمِسُوهَا فى العَشْرِ الأَوَاخِرِ، فى الوَتْرِ مِنْها". مُتَّفقٌ عليه (١٦). وقالت عائشةُ: كان رسولُ اللهِ -صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ- إذا دَخَلَ (١٧) العَشْرُ الأَوَاخِرُ من رمضانَ، أحْيَا اللَّيْلَ، وأَيْقَظَ أهْلَه، وشَدَّ المِئْزَرَ". مُتَّفَقٌ عليه (١٨). قالت: وكان يَجْتَهِدُ فى العَشْرِ الأَوَاخِرِ ما لا يَجْتَهِدُ فى غيرِها (١٩). وقال علىٌّ، رَضِىَ اللَّه
