as in both schools of thought. They argued with what was narrated from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) that he said: "The ihram of a woman is in her face" (2). [They also argued] that it is a limb whose covering is permitted with something other than stitched [fabric], so covering it with [the latter] is permitted, just like the feet. Our evidence is what Ibn 'Umar narrated from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) that he said: "The woman in ihram shall not wear a niqab, nor shall she wear the gloves." Narrated by al-Bukhari (3). He also narrated that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) forbade women in their ihram from [wearing] gloves and the anklet (4). Furthermore, because when it became obligatory for the man to uncover his head, the ruling of his ihram became connected to other parts of his body, thus he was prevented from wearing stitched garments on the rest of his body. Likewise, when it became necessary for the woman to uncover her face, the ruling of ihram should necessarily connect to parts other than that [face], which are the hands. As for their hadith, it is intended to mean uncovering. As for covering with something other than stitched fabric, it is permissible for the man, and it is not permitted with stitched fabric. As for the anklet and similar jewelry, such as the bracelet and the armlet (5), the manifest [opinion] in the words of al-Khiraqi is that it is not permitted to wear it. Ahmad has stated: "The woman in ihram and the woman whose husband has died must abandon perfume and adornment, and they may have whatever is besides that." It was narrated from 'Ata' that he used to dislike silk and jewelry for the woman in ihram. Al-Thawri and Abu Thawr also disliked it. It was narrated from Qatada that he saw no harm in a woman wearing a ring and earrings while she is in ihram, but he disliked bracelets, armlets, and anklets. The apparent view of Ahmad's school is the concession for it. This is the opinion of Ibn 'Umar, 'Aisha, and the scholars of opinion (Ashab al-Ra'y). Ahmad said, in the narration of Hanbal: "The woman in ihram may wear jewelry and [garments dyed with] safflower." He also said regarding Nafi': "The women and daughters of Ibn 'Umar used to wear jewelry and [garments dyed with] safflower while they were in ihram, and 'Abdullah did not disapprove of that." Ahmad also narrated in...
