nor shall they propose." [Recorded by Muslim] (3). And because ihram makes perfume unlawful, it therefore makes marriage unlawful, just as the 'iddah (waiting period) does. As for the hadith of Ibn ‘Abbas, Yazid ibn al-Asamm narrated from Maymunah that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) married her while he was in a state of hallal (not in ihram), [and consummated the marriage with her while in a state of hallal] (4), and she died in Saraf (5), in the tent in which he had consummated the marriage with her. Recorded by Abu Dawud and al-Athram (6). And from Abu Rafi‘, he said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) married Maymunah while he was in a state of hallal, and consummated the marriage with her while he was in a state of hallal, and I was the messenger between them (7). Al-Tirmidhi said: This is a hasan (good) hadith. And Maymunah knows her own affairs best.
