It begins from the Black Stone. Meaning, he starts the round that he interrupted from the Black Stone when he resumes continuing it.

Section: If he abandons sequence (muwalat) for a reason other than what we have mentioned, and the interval is prolonged, he must restart the tawaf. If it is not prolonged, he may continue. There is no difference between abandoning the sequence intentionally or out of forgetfulness, such as one who leaves out a round of tawaf, thinking he has completed it. The People of Opinion (Ashab al-Ra'y) said regarding one who performed three rounds of the circumambulation of visitation (tawaf al-ziyara) and then returned to his country: He must return and perform the remaining rounds. Our argument is that the Prophet (may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) maintained sequence in his tawaf and said: "Take your rites from me." Also, it is a prayer, so sequence is a condition for it, like other prayers. Or we may say: It is an act of worship related to the House, so sequence is a condition for it, like prayer. Regarding the length or brevity of the interval, one should refer to common custom ('urf) without a specific limit. Another version has been narrated from Abu Abdullah (Ahmad), may Allah have mercy on him: If he has an excuse that occupies him, he may continue; but if he interrupts it without an excuse or for his own need, he must restart the tawaf. He also said: If one becomes exhausted during tawaf, there is no harm in resting. He further mentioned: Al-Hasan fainted and was carried to his family, and when he regained consciousness, he completed it. Abu Abdullah said: If he wishes, he may complete it, and if he wishes, he may restart it. This is because he interrupted it due to an excuse, so continuing is permissible, just as if he had interrupted it for prayer.

Section: As for sa'y between al-Safa and al-Marwa, the apparent meaning of Ahmad's words is that sequence is not a condition for it. For he said regarding a man who was between al-Safa and al-Marwa when a newcomer he knew met him: May he stand, greet him, and ask him [questions]? He replied: Yes, the matter of al-Safa is easy; it is only the standing during tawaf around the House that was disliked. As for [standing] between al-Safa and al-Marwa, there is no harm. The Qadi said: Sequence is a condition for it, by analogy to tawaf. Abu al-Khattab narrated this as a version
