the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) commanded his companions during the Farewell Pilgrimage who had performed Hajj as Mufrid or Qarin, to all exit the state of ihram and turn it into an Umrah, except for those who had brought a sacrificial animal. This has been established in numerous hadiths, all of which are agreed upon, to the extent that it approaches the level of mutawatir (recurrently transmitted) and certainty. No scholar that we know of has differed regarding the authenticity and establishment of this from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). Abu Hafs mentioned in his "Sharh" (Commentary) that he heard Abu Abd Allah ibn Battah say: I heard Abu Bakr ibn Ayyub say: I heard Ibrahim al-Harbi say, when he was asked about the dissolution of Hajj: Salamah ibn Shabib said to Ahmad ibn Hanbal: "O Abu Abd Allah, everything you say is good and beautiful, except for one point." He asked: "And what is that?" He said: "You speak in favor of the dissolution of Hajj." Ahmad said: "I had assumed you possessed intelligence. I have with me eighteen sound, excellent hadiths, all concerning the dissolution of Hajj; [am I to abandon them for your opinion! And the dissolution of Hajj has been narrated by] Ibn Umar, Ibn Abbas, Jabir, and Aisha, and their hadiths are agreed upon." Others also narrated it, and all of their hadiths are sound. Ahmad said: "The dissolution of Hajj has been narrated from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) via the hadiths of Jabir, Aisha, Asma, al-Bara, Ibn Umar, and Sabrah al-Juhani." In the text of Jabir’s hadith, he said: "We assumed the state of ihram as companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) for Hajj exclusively, with no Umrah accompanying it. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) arrived in the morning of the fourth day of Dhu al-Hijjah. When we arrived, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) commanded us to exit the state of ihram. He said: 'Exit ihram and enjoy your wives.'" He said: "It reached him from us that we were saying: 'There are only five nights between us and Arafat, yet he commands us to exit ihram and approach our wives, while our private parts are dripping"
