on Uranah (5) to the mountains facing it, up to what follows the enclosures of Banu Amir. The valley of Uranah is not part of the standing place, and standing in it does not suffice him. Ibn Abd al-Barr said: The jurists (6) have reached a consensus that whoever stands in it, it does not suffice him. It is reported from Malik that he must slaughter a sacrifice, but his Hajj is complete. Our argument is the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him): "All of Arafah is a standing place, but avoid the bottom of Uranah." Narrated by Ibn Majah (7). Also, because he did not stand in Arafah, it does not suffice him, just as if he had stood in Muzdalifah. It is recommended that he stand by the rocks and the Mountain of Mercy and face the Qiblah, according to what came in the hadith of Jabir, that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) positioned the belly of his she-camel, al-Qaswa', towards the rocks, placed the path of the pedestrians in front of him, and faced the Qiblah (8).

Section: The best is to stand while riding on his mount, as the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) did, for that is more helpful for him in supplication. Ahmad, when asked about standing while riding, said: "The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) stood on his mount." It was also said: Standing on foot is better, as it is lighter on the mount. It is possible that they are equal (9).

Section: Standing is a pillar (rukn) without which the Hajj is not complete, by consensus. Al-Thawri reported from Bukayr ibn Ata al-Laythi, from Abd al-Rahman ibn Ya'mar (10) al-Dili, who said: I came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) at Arafah, and a group of people from Najd came to him and said: "O Messenger of Allah, how is the Hajj?" He said: "The Hajj is Arafah; whoever arrives before the dawn prayer on the night of Jam' (Muzdalifah), his Hajj is complete." Narrated by Abu Dawud and Ibn Majah (11). Muhammad ibn Yahya said: I do not narrate a more noble hadith for al-Thawri than this one.

636 - Issue: He said: (Then he recites Takbir and Tahlil, and strives in supplication until sunset).
