and others. And because the throwing at this Jamrah is among those things which it is recommended to start with on this day upon arriving, and there is no sunnah of standing at it; and if walking to it were recommended for him, getting down [from his mount] would distract him from beginning with it and hastening to it, unlike the others.

Section: There are two times for throwing at this Jamrah: a time of excellence (fadiilah) and a time of sufficiency (ijza'). As for the time of excellence, it is after sunrise. Ibn 'Abd al-Barr said: The scholars of the Muslims have reached a consensus that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) only threw at it during the forenoon of that day. Jabir said: I saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) throwing at the Jamrah during the forenoon of the Day of Sacrifice alone, and he threw [after that] after the sun had passed its zenith. Recorded by Muslim (13). Ibn 'Abbas said: We arrived with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)—a group of young boys (14) of the Banu 'Abd al-Muttalib—on our donkeys (15) from Jam' (Muzdalifah), and he began to pat (16) our thighs and say: "My little sons (17), do not throw at the Jamrah until the sun rises." Recorded by Ibn Majah (18). And because (19) throwing at it after sunrise is sufficient by consensus, and it is more appropriate.
