therein he ceases the talbiyah, just like the one performing 'Umrah who ceases the talbiyah upon commencing the circumambulation (tawaf).
648 - Issue: He said: (Then he performs the sacrifice, if he has an offering [hady] with him.)
In summary, when he finishes throwing at the Jamrah on the Day of Sacrifice (Yawm al-Nahr), he does not stand, but rather departs. The first thing he begins with is the slaughtering of the offering, if he has an offering with him, whether it is obligatory or voluntary. If he does not have an offering with him and he has an obligatory offering due, he purchases it. If he does not have an obligatory one and wishes to perform an optional sacrifice (udhiyah), he purchases what he will sacrifice. He performs the nahr (stabbing in the base of the neck) for camels and the dhabh (slaughtering) for other animals. It is recommended that he perform this himself (1), although if he appoints someone else, it is permitted. This is the view of Malik, al-Shafi'i, Abu Thawr, and the Ashab al-Ra'y. This is based on what Jabir reported regarding the description of the Hajj of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), that he threw from the bottom of the valley, then turned to the slaughtering place and performed the nahr of sixty-three camels, then gave them to 'Ali, who performed the nahr of what remained, and he included him in his offering (2). Anas said: The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) performed the nahr of seven camels with his own hand while they were standing. Narrated by al-Bukhari (3).
Section: The sunnah is to perform the nahr of camels while they are standing, with their left foreleg tied, striking them with a spear in the hollow between the base of the neck and the chest. Among those who recommended this are Malik, al-Shafi'i, Ishaq, and Ibn al-Mundhir. 'Ata' recommended performing the nahr while they are kneeling. Al-Thawri and the Ashab al-Ra'y permitted all these methods. Our evidence is what Ziyad (4) ibn Jubayr reported, saying: I saw Ibn 'Umar
= and 'Chapter: The Hajj of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)' from the Book of Rites, Sunan Ibn Majah 2/1008, 1026; and al-Darimi, in: 'Chapter: Throwing from the bottom of the valley...', from the Book of Rites, Sunan al-Darimi 2/63; and Imam Ahmad, in: Al-Musnad 1/212, 427, 2/152, 6/90. (1) In (A): "by himself". (2) The documentation of the long hadith of Jabir was provided previously on page 156. (3) In: "Chapter: Performing the nahr of camels while standing...", from the Book of Hajj, Sahih al-Bukhari 2/210. It was also narrated by Abu Dawud, in: "Chapter: On coupling (al-iqran)", from the Book of Rites, Sunan Abi Dawud 1/417. (4) In (A), (B), and (M): "Dinar" which is an error.
