He approached a man who had made his camel kneel in order to slaughter it, and said: "Send it standing and bound; the sunnah of Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)." Agreed upon (5). Abu Dawud (6) narrated with his chain of authority from 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Sabit that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and his companions used to perform the nahr of the camel with its left foreleg bound, while it was standing on its remaining legs. Regarding the Word of Allah the Exalted: "And when they are down on their sides (fadha wajabat junubuh)" (7), it is evidence that they are to be slaughtered while standing. It is narrated in the interpretation of His saying, the Exalted: "So mention the name of Allah upon them as they are lined up (sawaffa)", meaning standing. It is sufficient regardless of how he performs the slaughter. Ahmad said: He performs the nahr of the camels bound on three legs, and if he fears it might bolt, he makes it kneel.
Section: It is recommended to direct the sacrificial animal toward the Qibla, and he says: "In the name of Allah, and Allah is the Greatest." If he says what has been narrated (8) from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), it is good. Ibn al-Mundhir said: It is established that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) used to say when he slaughtered: "In the name of Allah, and Allah is the Greatest" (9). Ibn 'Umar says the same. It is narrated that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) slaughtered two rams on the day of the 'Id, then said when he directed them: "I have turned my face toward He who created the heavens and the earth, inclining toward the truth, and I am not of the polytheists. Indeed, my prayer, my sacrifice, my living, and my dying are for Allah, Lord of the worlds. There is no partner for Him, and of that I have been commanded, and I am the first of the Muslims. In the name of Allah, and Allah is the Greatest. O Allah (10), it is from You and for You, on behalf of Muhammad and his nation." Narrated by Abu
