more than one ransom, as if he were performing ifrad (individual Hajj). And Allah knows best.

667- Issue: He said: "Except that he is liable for [the offering of] blood (dam), and if he does not find [it], then fasting three days during the Hajj and seven when he returns."

This is an exception of exclusion (istithna munqati'), meaning: however, he is liable for the sacrificial blood, as the obligation of this blood is not among the actions negated by his statement: "And there is no increase in the work of the qarin over the work of the mufrid." We do not know of any disagreement regarding the obligation of the blood [upon the qarin, except for what was narrated from Dawud, that there is no blood] upon him. This was also narrated from Tawus. Ibn al-Mundhir narrated that when Ibn Dawud entered Mecca, he was asked about the qarin, "Is he liable for blood?" He replied, "No." So he was dragged by his leg. This indicates the notoriety of the matter among them. Our evidence is the saying of Allah the Almighty: {Then whoever performs Umrah during the Hajj period, then what is easy of the sacrificial animal} [Surah al-Baqarah 196]. The qarin is a mutamatti' (one who performs enjoyment) by combining the Umrah with the Hajj, evidenced by the fact that Ali, may Allah be pleased with him, when he heard Uthman forbidding the Tamattu', he entered into the ihram for both Hajj and Umrah so that people would know that it is not forbidden. Ibn Umar said: "Qiran is only for the people of distant lands." And he recited the saying of Allah the Almighty: {That is for those whose family is not present at the Sacred Mosque} [Surah al-Baqarah 196]. It has been narrated that the Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) said: "Whoever combines his Hajj and his Umrah, let him spill blood (slaughter a sacrifice)." Also, because he has enjoyed ease through the dropping of one of the two journeys, a blood sacrifice became incumbent upon him, like the mutamatti'. And if he lacks the means for the sacrifice, he is liable for fasting three days during the Hajj and seven when he returns, exactly like the mutamatti'.
