Umar and Uthman, may Allah be pleased with them. Al-Hasan, Ata, Malik, and Ishaq also held this opinion. Abu Hanifah said: The preferred choice is to assume ihram from one's own country. From Al-Shafi'i, there are two positions similar to these. Alqamah, al-Aswad, Abd al-Rahman, and Abu Ishaq used to assume ihram from their houses. They argued based on what Umm Salamah, the wife of the Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace), narrated: that she heard the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) say: "Whoever assumes ihram for Hajj or 'Umrah from the al-Aqsa Mosque to the Sacred Mosque, his past and future sins will be forgiven," or "Paradise becomes mandatory for him." Abd Allah was in doubt as to which of the two he said. Narrated by Abu Dawud. In a wording narrated by Ibn Majah: "Whoever assumes ihram for 'Umrah from Bayt al-Maqdis, he is forgiven." Ibn Umar assumed ihram from Iliya. Al-Nasa'i and Abu Dawud narrated with their chains of narration from al-Dabbi ibn Ma'bad, who said: I assumed ihram for Hajj and 'Umrah, and when I arrived at al-'Udhayb, Salman ibn Rabi'ah and Zayd ibn Suhan met me while I was in the state of ihlal for both. One of them said: "This person is no more learned than his camel." I went to Umar and mentioned that to him, and he said: "You have been guided to the Sunnah of your Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace)." This is assuming ihram before the miqat. It was also narrated from Umar and Ali, may Allah be pleased with them, regarding the saying of the Almighty: {And complete the Hajj and 'Umrah for Allah}, that their completion is to assume ihram for them from your own house. Our evidence is that the Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) and his companions assumed ihram from the miqat, and they did not
