He said: "Yes." From Ibn 'Umar, he said: "The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) performed tamattu' during the Farewell Pilgrimage with 'Umrah into Hajj." And from him, that Hafsah said to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him): "What is the matter with the people? They have exited ihram, but you have not exited (20) your 'Umrah?" He said: "I have matted my hair, and I have garlanded my sacrificial animal, so I will not exit ihram until I slaughter." This is agreed upon (21). Sa'd said: "The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) did it, and we did it with him (22)." These hadiths are superior because their narrators are more numerous and more knowledgeable of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), and because the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) reported about the mut'ah regarding himself in the hadith of Hafsah, so it cannot be contradicted by the opinion of others. Furthermore, 'Aisha was a mutamatti'ah without dispute, and she was with the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and would not enter into ihram except by his command, and he would not command her (23) to do something then contradict it with another. Also, it is possible to reconcile between the hadiths by saying that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) entered into ihram for 'Umrah, then he did not exit it because of his sacrificial animal until he entered into ihram for Hajj; thus, he became a qarin (one performing qiran). Those who called him a mufrid (one performing ifrad) did so because he busied himself with the actions of Hajj alone after finishing the actions of 'Umrah. For reconciling between the
