The Third Section: Regarding its time, which is during the day, not the night; because the day is the gathering place of people and where they meet, unlike the night. This should occur on the day he finds it, and for a week [it is] better, because the search is more active during that time; it is not obligatory to continue announcing it consecutively after that. Al-Jawzajani narrated with his chain of transmission from Mu'awiya ibn Abd Allah, from Zayd al-Juhani, who said: "We descended at a place where a caravan was resting, and I found a piece of cloth containing nearly one hundred dinars. I brought it to Umar, who said: 'Announce it for three days at the door of the mosque, then keep it until the year ends; and do not let any caravan arrive without you asking about it, saying: The gold is on the road to Syria. Then it is your affair what you do with it.'" (8)

The Fourth Section: Regarding its location, which is the marketplaces and the doors of the mosques and congregational mosques, at the time when people gather, such as after prayers in the mosques, as well as in other places where people congregate; because the intent is to spread the mention of it and display it so that its owner may learn of it. Thus, one must seek out places where people gather, but one should not announce it inside the mosque, because the mosque was not built for this. Abu Hurayra narrated from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) that he said: "Whoever hears a man calling out for a lost item in the mosque, let him say: 'May Allah not return it to you,' for the mosques were not built for this." (9) And Umar commanded the finder of a lost item to announce it (10) at the door of the mosque.
