the heirs permit, and one-fourth remains for them. If they reject, the third is between the two legatees in three parts, and the entire matter is resolved through nine. If they permit for one of them without the other, you multiply the resolution of the rejection by the resolution of the permission; you give the one for whom it was permitted his share from the permission resolution multiplied by the rejection resolution, and the one whose bequest was rejected his share from the rejection resolution multiplied by the permission resolution. If some heirs permit for both and the others reject for both, you give the permitting heir his share from the permission resolution multiplied by the rejection resolution, and the one who did not permit his share from the rejection resolution multiplied by the permission resolution, and divide the remainder between the two legatees in three parts. If the two resolutions coincide, you multiply the concordant part of one by the other, and whoever has a share in one of the two resolutions is multiplied by the concordant part of the other. If one resolution is contained within the other, you suffice with the larger of the two. Thus, in this issue of Al-Khiraqi, if the heirs are a mother and three sisters from different sides, and they permit, the resolution is from four; for the two legatees is three, and one share remains to be distributed over six, so you multiply it by four, becoming twenty-four. If they reject, the two legatees have the third, which is three, and six remain to be distributed over the resolution, which is six, so it is corrected through nine. If they permit for the owner of the half alone, you multiply the concordant part of nine by twenty-four, becoming seventy-two; the owner of the half gets twelve times three, which is thirty-six, the other gets one share times eight, and twenty-eight remain for the heirs. If the mother permits for both and the rest reject for them, you give the mother a share times three, and the others five shares times eight, the total becoming forty-three, and twenty-nine remain between the two legatees in three parts. If the sister from both parents permits alone, she has nine, [the remaining heirs] have twenty-four, and thirty-nine remain for the two of them in three parts: twenty-six for the owner of the half, and thirteen for the other.
