For a son half of whom is free, a son of a son one-third of whom is free, and a brother three-quarters of whom is free: the highest has the half, the second has one-third of the remainder, which is one-sixth, and the brother has three-quarters of the remainder, which is one-quarter. According to the other opinion, the son has the half, the son of the son has the one-third, and the remainder is for the brother. For three brothers of different types, half of each of whom is free: the uterine brother has half of a sixth, the full brother has half of the remainder, and the paternal brother has half of the remainder. It resolves to forty-eight; the uterine brother has four, the full brother has twenty-two, and the paternal brother has eleven. According to the other opinion, the uterine brother has half of a sixth, the full brother has the half, and the paternal brother has what remains. If there is with them a free daughter, she has the half, there is nothing for the uterine brother, the full brother has one-quarter, the paternal brother has one-eighth, and the remainder is for the agnate. According to the other opinion, the remainder is for the full brother alone. If half of the daughter is free, she has one-quarter, the uterine brother has one-quarter of a sixth, the full brother has half of the remainder, and the paternal brother has half of the remainder.
Section: For a daughter half of whom is free, she has one-quarter, and the remainder is for the agnate. If there is no agnate, she has the half by way of fixed share and return (radd), and the remainder is for the blood relatives (dhawi al-rahim); if there are none, it goes to the public treasury (bayt al-mal). If there is with her a free mother, she has one-quarter; because a free daughter excludes her from the sixth, so half of her excludes her from half of it. If there is with her a woman, she has one-eighth and half of an eighth. If there is with her a uterine brother, he has half of a sixth. If there is with her a daughter of a son, she has the one-third; because were she (the daughter) entirely a slave, the daughter of the son would have the half, and were she entirely free, she would have the sixth, so her freedom has excluded her from the one-third, and half of her excludes her from the sixth. Everyone we have mentioned, if half of him is free, has half of his wealth in terms of freedom; if one-third of him is free, he has one-third of it. If there is with her another free daughter, she has one-quarter of the wealth, and one-third of it is shared between them in thirds according to the one who combines freedom in both of them; because they have [a share] due to freedom
