It has been narrated that the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, saw a trace of yellow (perfume) on Abd al-Rahman and said: "What is this?" He replied: "I have married a woman (80) for the weight of a date-stone of gold." He said: "May Allah bless you, give a wedding feast even if with one sheep." (Agreed upon) (81). Some scholars said: The weight of a date-stone is five dirhams, and that is three and a half mithqals of gold. Al-Mubarrad said: The correct view according to the people of the Arabic language (82) is that it should be said: "'ala nawah" (on a date-stone); for among them, the nawah is a name for five (83) dirhams, just as an uqiyyah is forty dirhams, and a nash is twenty. And Allah knows best.
