220 - Muhammad ibn al-Husayn informed me that al-Fadl narrated to them, saying: I wrote to Abu 'Abd Allah [Ahmad ibn Hanbal] asking him about what was narrated regarding the actions of the Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) that were exclusive to him.
221 - Muhammad ibn 'Ali informed me, saying: Salih narrated to us—and this is his wording—saying: I asked my father about what is narrated regarding the actions of the Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) that were exclusive to him, such as sleeping and the safi (choice portion of spoils)—what is the meaning of it, among the actions that no one else performed? He said: 'Like what was permitted to him regarding women; he passed away leaving behind nine [wives] and he had married fourteen, and he said: "My eyes sleep, but my heart does not sleep."... and he used to choose for himself from the spoils of war.'
٢٢٠ - أَخْبَرَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ، أَنَّ الْفَضْلَ حَدَّثَهُمْ قَالَ: كَتَبْتُ إِلَى أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ أَسْأَلُهُ عَمَّا رُوِيَ عَنْ فِعْلِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَهُ خَاصٌّ.
٢٢١ - وَأَخْبَرَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ، قَالَ: ثَنَا صَالِحٌ، وَهَذَا لَفْظُهُ، قَالَ: سَأَلْتُ أَبِي عَمَّا يُرْوَى مِنْ فِعْلِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَهُ خَاصٍّ، مَا هُوَ يَكُونُ مِثْلَ النَّوْمِ وَالصَّفِيِّ، مَا مَعْنَاهُ، مِنَ الْأَفْعَالِ مِمَّا لَمْ يَفْعَلْهُ غَيْرُهُ؟ قَالَ: " مِثْلَ مَا أُبِيحَ لَهُ مِنَ النِّسَاءِ، مَاتَ عَنْ تِسْعٍ، وَتَزَوَّجَ أَرْبَعَ عَشْرَةَ، وَقَالَ: تَنَامُ عَيْنَايَ وَلَا يَنَامُ قَلْبِي ⦗٢٠١⦘. . . . وَكَانَ يَصْطَفِي مِنَ الْمَغْنَمِ "
