483 - Abu Bakr al-Marrudhi informed us regarding this issue, saying: I said to Abu 'Abd Allah: "It has been narrated from Ibn al-Haytham al-Muqri' that he said: 'I do not testify for the Ten that they are in Paradise.'" He [Ahmad] said: "He did not discuss anything with me." I said to him: "Should the proponent of this statement not be shunned?" He replied: "Some people have already shunned him, and he has encountered harm." Muhammad ibn Yahya al-Kahhal also said regarding this issue: "I asked Abu 'Abd Allah about the one who does not testify that Abu Bakr, 'Umar, and 'Uthman are in Paradise, and he said: 'This is an evil statement. Some people were with me days ago informing me about him regarding this, and had I known, I would have shunned him.'" I said to him: "Ibn al-Haytham?" He said: "Yes, they have informed me that he authored a book on this." He [Ahmad] then said: "By Allah, Abu Bakr al-Siddiq was not satisfied with the people of apostasy until they testified that 'our slain are in Paradise, and their slain are in the Fire'." Then I returned to the issue of al-Marrudhi and said: "Ahmad ibn al-Dawraqi told me that he debated you at the door of Isma'il, and you stood up dragging your garment in anger?" He said: "I do not know."
٤٨٣ - وَأَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ الْمَرُّوذِيُّ، فِي هَذِهِ الْمَسْأَلَةِ قَالَ: قُلْتُ لِأَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ: إِنَّ ابْنَ الْهَيْثَمِ الْمُقْرِئَ قَدْ حُكِيَ عَنْهُ أَنَّهُ قَالَ: لَا أَشْهَدُ لِلْعَشَرَةِ أَنَّهُمْ فِي الْجَنَّةِ، قَالَ: لَمْ يُذَاكِرْنِي بِشَيْءٍ، قُلْتُ لَهُ: فَلَا يُجَانَبُ صَاحِبُ هَذِهِ الْمَقَالَةِ؟ قَالَ: قَدْ جَفَاهُ قَوْمٌ , وَقَدْ لَقِيَ أَذًى. وَقَالَ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى الْكَحَّالُ فِي هَذِهِ الْمَسْأَلَةِ: سَأَلْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَمَّنْ لَا يَشْهَدُ لِأَبِي بَكْرٍ وَعُمَرَ وَعُثْمَانَ بِالْجَنَّةِ , فَقَالَ: هَذَا قَوْلُ سَوْءٍ، وَقَدْ كَانَ عِنْدِي مُنْذُ أَيَّامٍ مَنْ هُوَ ذَا يُخْبِرُ عَنْهُ بِهَذَا , وَلَوْ عَلِمْتُ لَجَفَوْتُهُ، قُلْتُ لَهُ: ابْنُ الْهَيْثَمِ؟ قَالَ: نَعَمْ، قَدْ أَخْبِرُونِي أَنَّهُ وَضَعَ فِي هَذَا كِتَابًا، وَقَالَ: «وَاللَّهِ مَا رَضِيَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ الصِّدِّيقُ مِنْ أَهْلِ الرِّدَّةِ حَتَّى شَهِدُوا أَنَّ قَتْلَانَا فِي الْجَنَّةِ، وَقَتْلَاهُمْ فِي النَّارِ» ، ثُمَّ رَجَعْتُ إِلَى مَسْأَلَةِ الْمَرُّوذِيِّ , قُلْتُ: إِنَّ ابْنَ الدَّوْرَقِيِّ أَحْمَدَ قَالَ لِي: إِنَّهُ نَاظَرَكَ عَلَى بَابِ إِسْمَاعِيلَ فَقُمْتَ تَجُرُّ ثَوْبَكَ ⦗٣٥٩⦘ مُغْضَبًا؟ قَالَ: لَا أَدْرِي "
