513 - Muhammad ibn Musa informed me, saying: Abu Ja'far Hamdan ibn 'Ali said that he heard Abu 'Abd Allah say: Yahya ibn Sa'id used to say, 'Umar withheld, and I withhold.' Abu 'Abd Allah said: 'I did not hear this from Yahya; Abu 'Ubayd narrated it to me from him, and I did not ask anyone about this, nor what he did with this.' Abu Ja'far said: 'I said: O Abu 'Abd Allah, is one who says Abu Bakr and 'Umar [then stops] considered by you to be of the Ahl al-Sunnah?' He replied: 'Do not make me stop at this; what shall we do with the people of Kufa?' Abu Ja'far said: And Abu al-Sarri 'Abdus ibn 'Abd al-Wahid narrated to me from him, saying: "Expelling people from the Sunnah is a grave matter."
