602 - Muhammad ibn 'Ali ibn Mahmud al-Warraq informed me, saying: Abu Ya'qub Ishaq ibn Ibrahim al-Baghdawi—that is, Lu'lu', the cousin of Ahmad ibn Mani'—narrated to me, saying: I said to Ahmad: 'O Abu 'Abd Allah, is not the one who says: Abu Bakr, 'Umar, 'Uthman, and 'Ali, considered by you to be a follower of the Sunnah?' He replied: 'Yes, indeed there has been narrated concerning 'Ali, may Allah have mercy upon him, that which makes the—I think he said—skins tremble,' and he (the Prophet), may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: 'You are to me in the position of Aaron to Moses, except that there is no prophet after me.'
