628 - Muhammad ibn 'Ali informed me, saying: I heard Muhammad ibn Mutahhar al-Missisi say: I asked Abu 'Abd Allah about [the matter of] precedence [in virtue], and he mentioned the answer, and he mentioned the hadith of Hammad ibn Salamah from Sa'id ibn Jumhan, from Safinah regarding the Caliphate. He said: "'Ali, in our view, is among the Rightly Guided and the rightly directed, and Hammad ibn Salamah is, in our view, trustworthy, and we only increase in insight regarding him every day."
٦٢٨ - أَخْبَرَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ مُحَمَّدَ بْنَ مُطَهَّرٍ الْمِصِّيصِيُّ، قَالَ: سَأَلْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنِ التَّفْضِيلِ، فَذَكَرَ الْجَوَابَ، وَذَكَرَ حَدِيثَ حَمَّادِ بْنِ سَلَمَةَ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُمْهَانَ، عَنْ سَفِينَةَ فِي الْخِلَافَةِ، قَالَ: «عَلِيٌّ عِنْدَنَا مِنَ الرَّاشِدِينَ وَالْمَهْدِيِّينَ، وَحَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ عِنْدَنَا ثِقَةٌ، وَمَا نَزْدَادُ فِيهِ كُلَّ يَوْمٍ إِلَّا بَصِيرَةً»
