684 - Muhammad ibn 'Ali informed us, saying: Muhanna told us, saying: I asked Ahmad about the hadith of Waki', from Hisham, from his father, from Mu'awiyah: "There is no forbearance except through experience." He said: "How amazing is this!" Muhanna said: I asked Yahya ibn Ma'in: "Did 'Urwah ibn al-Zubayr hear from Mu'awiyah?" He said: "Yes." I said: "What is it [the report]?" He said: 'Urwah says: "I heard Mu'awiyah delivering a sermon, saying: 'There is no forbearance except through experience'." I said: "Who is saying [that he heard it]?" He said: "Hisham ibn 'Urwah says it from 'Urwah."
