710 - Banan ibn Yahya informed me, saying: Husayn ibn 'Abd Allah narrated to us, saying: Kathir ibn 'Abd Allah ibn Ja'far, the nephew of Isma'il ibn Ja'far, narrated to us, saying: Hisham ibn 'Urwah narrated to us, from his father, from 'A'ishah, who said: I came to the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, while he was in the house of Umm Habibah, and it was her day with the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace. He said: "What brought you, O Humayra'?" She said: I replied: "A matter has arisen." She said: Mu'awiyah knocked at the door, and he said: "Give him permission." She said: So he entered, walking with a steady pace. He said: "It is as if I see his feet trailing in Paradise." She said: He came and sat before the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace. He said: "What is this pen on your ear, O Mu'awiyah?" He said: "A pen I have prepared for Allah and His Messenger." He said: "May Allah reward you well on behalf of His Prophet. For by Allah, I did not have you act as a scribe except by revelation, and I do not perform any minor or major action except by revelation. So how will it be when Allah clothes you in your garment?" She said: Then Umm Habibah jumped up and said: "Do you mean that Allah the Exalted will clothe him in a garment, O Messenger of Allah?" He replied: "Yes, and in it there will be some trials and tribulations." She said: "Then pray to Allah for my brother, O Messenger of Allah." He said: "May Allah keep destruction away from you, provide you with piety, and forgive you in the Hereafter and the first life."
