726 - And 'Abd Allah ibn Ahmad informed us, saying: My father narrated to me, saying: Umayyah ibn Khalid narrated to us, saying: It was said to Shu'bah: 'Abu Shaybah narrated from al-Hakam, from 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Abi Layla, that he said: "Seventy men from the people of Badr witnessed [the battle of] Siffin." So he [Shu'bah] said: "By Allah, he lied. I have discussed this with al-Hakam, and we mentioned it in his house, and we did not find anyone who witnessed Siffin from the people of Badr other than Khuzaymah ibn Thabit."
٧٢٦ - وَأَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي قَالَ: ثَنَا أُمَيَّةُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ، قَالَ: قِيلَ لِشُعْبَةَ: إِنَّ أَبَا شَيْبَةَ رَوَى عَنِ الْحَكَمِ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي لَيْلَى، أَنَّهُ قَالَ: " شَهِدَ صِفِّينَ مِنْ أَهْلِ بَدْرٍ سَبْعُونَ رَجُلًا. فَقَالَ: كَذَبَ وَاللَّهِ، لَقَدْ ذَاكَرْتُ الْحَكَمَ بِذَلِكَ وَذَكَرْنَا فِي بَيْتِهِ فَمَا وَجَدْنَا شَهِدَ صِفِّينَ مِنْ أَهْلِ بَدْرٍ غَيْرَ خُزَيْمَةَ بْنِ ثَابِتٍ "
