728 - It was read to 'Abd Allah ibn Ahmad, who said: My father narrated to me, saying: Isma'il narrated to us, saying: Ayyub narrated to us, from Muhammad ibn Sirin, who said: "The strife (fitnah) broke out while the Companions of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, numbered ten thousand; yet fewer than one hundred attended it—rather, they did not even reach thirty."
٧٢٨ - قُرِئَ عَلَى عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَحْمَدَ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي قَالَ: ثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ، قَالَ: ثَنَا أَيُّوبُ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سِيرِينَ، قَالَ: «هَاجَتِ الْفِتْنَةُ وَأَصْحَابُ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَشَرَةُ آلَافٍ، فَمَا حَضَرَ فِيهَا مِائَةٌ، بَلْ لَمْ يَبْلُغُوا ثَلَاثِينَ»
