419 - 'Abd al-Malik informed us, saying: Ibn Hanbal narrated to us, saying: Waki' narrated to us, saying: Isma'il ibn Abi Khalid narrated to us, from Qays ibn Abi Hazim, from 'A'isha, who said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said during his illness in which he passed away: "I wish I had some of my companions with me." We said: "O Messenger of Allah, shall we call Abu Bakr for you?" He remained silent. We said: "O Messenger of Allah, shall we call 'Umar for you?" He remained silent. I said: "O Messenger of Allah, shall we call 'Ali for you?" He remained silent. We said: "Shall we call 'Uthman for you?" He said: "Yes." She said: So we sent for 'Uthman, and he came. He was left alone with him, and the Prophet began to speak to him, while 'Uthman's face was changing color. Qays said: Abu Sahla narrated to me that 'Uthman said on the Day of the House (Yawm al-Dar) when he was besieged: "The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, entrusted me with a matter, and I am being patient regarding it." Isma'il said: Qays said: And they considered it [to be] that [same] day.
