422 - 'Abd al-Malik informed me, saying: Ibn Hanbal narrated to us, saying: Wahb ibn Jarir narrated to us, saying: My father narrated to me, saying: I heard Ya'la ibn Hakim narrate from Nafi', that Ibn 'Umar said: "Ibn 'Abbas continued to forbid the killing of 'Uthman and to treat his affair with gravity, until I began to blame myself for not having said the same as he said."
٤٢٢ - أَخْبَرَنِي عَبْدُ الْمَلِكِ، قَالَ ثَنَا ابْنُ حَنْبَلٍ، قَالَ: ثَنَا وَهْبُ بْنُ جَرِيرٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ يَعْلَى بْنَ حَكِيمٍ يُحَدِّثُ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ، أَنَّ ابْنَ عُمَرَ قَالَ: «مَا زَالَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ يَنْهَى عَنْ قَتْلِ عُثْمَانَ وَيُعَظِّمُ شَأْنَهُ حَتَّى جَعَلْتُ أَلُومُ نَفْسِي، أَلَّا أَكُونُ قُلْتُ مِثْلَ مَا قَالَ»
