447 - Muhammad ibn Isma'il al-Ahmasi informed us, saying: Waki' reported to us, from his father, from Qays ibn Muslim al-Jadali, from Umm al-Hajjaj al-Jadaliyyah, who said: I was in the presence of 'Aishah, may Allah have mercy upon them both, in her pavilion, within a red tent of hers. Al-Ashtar came and said: "O Mother of the Believers, what do you say regarding the killing of this man, 'Uthman?" She said: Then a woman with a strong voice spoke up and said: "I seek refuge in Allah from ordering the shedding of the blood of the Muslims, declaring their sanctities lawful, and tearing down their coverings." Al-Ashtar said to her: "You wrote to us ordering us, yet when the war intensified, you began forbidding us." Waki' said: My father said: And al-A'mash added therein: So 'Aishah swore an oath that day, such as no one before her or after her had sworn. She said: "No, by the One in whom the believers believe and in whom the disbelievers disbelieve, I have not written to them a single black mark on a white sheet regarding the affair of 'Uthman up to this day of mine." Abu Bakr al-Khallal said: The Mother of the Believers has spoken the truth, may the pleasure of Allah be upon her, she who was declared innocent from by Allah, the Almighty and Majestic.
