956 - Abu Yahya Zakariya b. Yahya al-Naqid informed me, saying: Abu Talib narrated to us that he asked Abu 'Abd Allah regarding a man whom they saw praying in the land of the enemy: should he be killed? He said: "No. The Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) said: 'I have been forbidden from killing those who pray.'" He said: "This argument is directed against the Murji'ah, for he has prayed but did not say: 'La ilaha illa Allah' (there is no god but Allah); therefore, this contradicts their position."
