791 - Abu Bakr al-Marwudhi informed us, saying: Wahb ibn Baqiyyah narrated to us, saying: Muhammad ibn Isma'il narrated to us, saying: Muhammad ibn Hujayr al-Bahili narrated to us, saying: 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Mighwal narrated to us, from his father, who said: Al-Sha'bi said: "O Malik, if I wished to trample their necks as slaves and they filled my house with gold in exchange for me lying about 'Ali, I would not do so; but by Allah, I will never lie about him. O Malik, I have studied the deviant sects and have never seen a people more foolish than the Khashabiyyah; if they were among the beasts, they would be donkeys, and if they were among the birds, they would be vultures." Then he said: "I warn you against the misleading deviant sects, the worst of which is the Rafidah. This is because there are Jews among them who disguise their Islam in order to pass on their misguidance, just as Paul son of Saul, the king of the Jews, disguised Christianity in order to pass on their misguidance." Then he said: "They did not enter Islam out of desire for it, nor out of fear of Allah, the Exalted and Majestic, but out of hatred for the people of Islam and aggression against them. 'Ali ibn Abi Talib burned them with fire and exiled them to various lands; among them was 'Abdullah ibn Saba', whom he exiled to Isbat, and 'Abdullah ibn Yasar, whom he exiled to Hazih, and Abu al-Karawas. The evidence for this is that the tribulation (mihna) of the Rafidah is the tribulation of the Jews: The Jews said: 'The Imamate is not fit except for a man from the family of David,' and the Rafidah said: 'The Imamate is not fit except for a man from the descendants of 'Ali ibn Abi Talib.' The Jews said: 'There is no Jihad in the path of Allah until the Dajjal (Antichrist) appears and a cause descends from heaven,' and the Rafidah said: 'There is no Jihad in the path of Allah until the Mahdi appears and a caller calls from heaven.' The Jews delay the Maghrib prayer until the stars become entangled, and likewise the Rafidah, even though the Hadith from the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) states: 'My Ummah will remain upon the Fitrah as long as they do not delay the Maghrib prayer until the stars become entangled.' The Jews deviate slightly from the Qiblah, and likewise the Rafidah. The Jews sway during prayer, and likewise the Rafidah; and the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) passed by a man who had let his garment hang (sadl) and rebuked him for it. The Jews deem the blood of every Muslim lawful, and likewise the Rafidah. The Jews do not see any waiting period ('iddah) for women, and likewise the Rafidah. The Jews do not consider the three-fold divorce as anything, and likewise the Rafidah. The Jews altered the Torah, and likewise the Rafidah altered the Qur'an. The Jews hate Gabriel and say: 'He is our enemy among the angels,' and likewise a faction of the Rafidah says: 'He made a mistake in bringing the revelation to Muhammad (peace be upon him)."
