800 - Ahmad ibn al-Husayn wrote to me, saying: Bakr ibn Muhammad narrated to us, from his father, from Abu Abd Allah [Ahmad ibn Hanbal], and he asked him about a man who narrates a hadith that contains something against the Companions of the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, saying: "Should I narrate it as I heard it?" He replied: "It does not please me that a man should narrate a hadith that contains something against the Companions of the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace." He further said: "I have crossed out more than one hadith that contained something against the Companions of the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace."
