1055 - Muhammad ibn Ali informed me, saying: Al-Athram narrated to us, saying: Abu Abd Allah narrated to us the hadith of Aisha—may Allah have mercy on her—from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him): "I indeed hope that I am the most fearful of you before Allah." He [Al-Khallal] said: "This is also 'I hope' [arju]," meaning: it is a proof for the [validity of making] exception (istithna') in faith, for he said "I hope," yet he was the most fearful of them.
١٠٥٥ - أَخْبَرَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ، قَالَ: ثَنَا الْأَثْرَمُ، قَالَ: ثَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بِحَدِيثِ عَائِشَةَ رَحِمَهَا اللَّهُ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «إِنِّي لَأَرْجُو أَنْ أَكُونَ أَخْشَاكُمْ ⦗٥٩٧⦘ لِلَّهِ» ، فَقَالَ: «هَذَا أَيْضًا أَرْجُو» ، أَيْ: هُوَ حُجَّةٌ فِي الِاسْتِثْنَاءِ فِي الْإِيمَانِ، أَيْ إِنَّهُ قَدْ قَالَ: أَرْجُو، وَهُوَ أَخْشَاهُمْ
