857 - Al-Duri informed us, saying: al-Aswad ibn 'Amir Shadhan narrated to us, saying: Sharik narrated to us, from Ibn 'Umayr—meaning 'Abd al-Malik ibn 'Umayr—who said: Al-Hajjaj said one day: "Whoever has [performed] a service (bala') should stand up so that we may reward him for his service." He said: A man stood up and said: "Reward me for my service." He asked: "And what is your service?" He replied: "I killed al-Husayn." He asked: "And how did you kill him?" He replied: "I pierced him, by Allah, with the spear, and I hacked him with the sword, and I did not associate anyone with me in his killing." He said: "Verily, you and he shall never meet in one place." He said: Then he ordered him to be taken out, and I believe he did not give him anything."
