1179 - He [Abu Abd Allah] said: Yazid ibn Harun narrated to us, saying: Ibn Abi Dhi'b narrated to us, from Muhammad ibn 'Amr ibn 'Ata', from Dhakwan, from 'A'ishah, may Allah have mercy on her, from the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, who said: "As for the trial of the grave, it is concerning me that you will be tested and about me that you will be questioned. When the righteous man is made to sit in his grave, he is neither fearful nor panicked. Then it is said to him: 'What were you saying regarding Islam?' and it is said to him: 'What is this man who was among you?' He says: 'Muhammad, the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace. He came to us with clear proofs from Allah, so we believed him.' Then a gap is opened for him toward the Fire, and he looks at it, with parts of it crushing other parts, and it is said to him: 'Look at what Allah has shielded you from.' Then a gap is opened for him toward Paradise, and he looks at its splendor and what it contains, and it is said to him: 'This is your seat within it,' and it is said to him: 'Upon certainty you were, upon it you died, and upon it you will be resurrected, if Allah wills.' But when the evil man is made to sit in his grave, he is fearful and panicked. It is said to him: 'What were you?' He says: 'I do not know.' It is said to him: 'What is this man who was among you?' He says: 'I heard the people saying something, so I said what they said.' Then a gap is opened for him toward Paradise, and he looks at its splendor and what it contains, and it is said to him: 'Look at what Allah has diverted away from you.' Then a gap is opened for him toward the Fire, and he looks at it, with parts of it crushing other parts, and it is said: 'This is your seat within it; upon doubt you were, upon it you died, and upon it you will be resurrected, if Allah wills.' Then he is punished." Muhammad ibn 'Amr said: Sa'id ibn Yasar narrated to me, from Abu Hurayrah, from the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and he mentioned the hadith: "Then they both arrive at the grave, and the righteous man is made to sit and is spoken to, and he responds similar to what is in the hadith of 'A'ishah, and the evil man is made to sit and is spoken to, and he responds similar to what is in the hadith of 'A'ishah, exactly."
