1181 - Abu Bakr informed us, saying: Abu 'Abd Allah narrated to us, saying: Muhammad ibn Fudayl narrated to us, saying: Fulayt al-'Amiri narrated to me, from Jasra al-'Amiriyya, from Abu Dharr, who said: The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, prayed one night, and he recited a verse until morning, bowing and prostrating with it: {If You punish them, they are Your servants; and if You forgive them, then indeed it is You who is the Exalted in Might, the Wise} [Al-Ma'idah: 118]. When morning came, I said: 'O Messenger of Allah, you continued to recite this verse until you reached morning, bowing and prostrating with it?' He said: 'I asked my Lord for intercession for my Ummah, and He granted it to me, and it shall be attained, if Allah wills, by those who do not associate anything with Allah.'
