1108 - Abu Bakr al-Marrudhi informed us, saying: Abu 'Abd Allah [Ahmad ibn Hanbal] narrated to us, saying: Sufyan narrated to us, from al-Zuhri, from Salim, from his father, that he heard the Prophet (peace be upon him) [speaking to] a man who was admonishing his brother regarding modesty, so he said: 'Modesty is [a part] of faith.'
1109 - 'Abd al-Rahman ibn 'Abd Allah ibn al-Hakam, the Imam of the mosque of Tarsus, informed me, saying: Hamid ibn 'Ali narrated to us, saying: Ahmad ibn Hanbal said to me: 'This hadith is severe against the Murji'ah, and it is a proof against them.'
١١٠٨ - وَأَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ الْمَرُّوذِيُّ، قَالَ: ثنا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، قَالَ: ثنا سُفْيَانُ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، عَنْ سَالِمٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، سَمِعَ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ رَجُلًا يَعِظُ أَخَاهُ فِي الْحَيَاءِ، فَقَالَ: «الْحَيَاءُ مِنَ الْإِيمَانِ» .
١١٠٩ - وَأَخْبَرَنِي عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الْحَكَمِ إِمَامُ مَسْجِدِ طَرَسُوسَ، قَالَ: ثنا حَامِدُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ، قَالَ: قَالَ لِي أَحْمَدُ بْنُ حَنْبَلٍ: «هَذَا ⦗٣٥⦘ الْحَدِيثُ شَدِيدٌ عَلَى الْمُرْجِئَةِ، وَحُجَّةٌ عَلَيْهِمْ»
